Seller Insight:

What’s your favourite room in the house and why?

I love the living room. It’s warm and cozy with a beautiful fireplace and built in bookcases which were always filled with my favourite authors. My mum loved the kitchen. She and her friends spent many hours chatting around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.

Who do you think will be the ideal new owner?

I thought about this a lot during the 3 weeks we spent clearing the house. Originally, I thought another couple like my parents would be ideal to be the next owners of Patten House, but having spent this time there with our 11 year old daughter running up and down the stairs, in and out the doors, and exploring the town, I realised the house would probably benefit from having kids in it again. It’s had kids in it before and seemed lighter with her running around it.

What do you love most about the house and why?

It has so much character all by itself. Any personal style just makes its momentary imprint which becomes part of the history of this home that has seen so much life with so many different types of people and periods of time.

What do you love about the local community?

The local community is friendly, social and close by. Art, dining, entertainment, festivals, activities and shopping are all just steps outside the front door.

How easy is it to commute from here?

Very easy to commute, there are train station at Great Bedwyn, Pewsey, Hungerford and Swindon, with easy access to both the M4 & A303/M3.
What made you choose this property over others?
My parents bought this property for its historical interest and town walkability. It was love at first sight for them.

There is still a twice weekly market to this day selling everything from fruit and veg to hardware and garden furniture.

There is excellent schooling at all levels locally in both the state and private sectors with secondary provision at St. John’s Academy, Dauntsey’s and Marlborough College. The surrounding countryside is a huge draw to the area, with country walks, bike rides and other outdoor pursuits all readily available.

Direct rail services to London Paddington are available from Bedwyn, Hungerford and Swindon, with the fastest journey times under 1 hour.
