Whixall has a church, village hall and primary school and adjacent to the village is Whixall Moss a National Nature Reserve and rare habitat and the home of a number of rare species. The Shropshire Way footpath also runs through the village. Whixall Marina lies on the Prees branch of the Llangollen Canal, part of the Shropshire Union Canal. There are moorings and a waterside café. Alderford Lake is about 4 miles from Welsh End Farm and is a popular location for wild swimmers, water activities including an aqua park and lessons and courses for water based activities.

Whitchurch is a market town and has a number of shops, supermarkets and cafe's along with a train station with links to Crewe, London and the North. Wem and Prees Medical practice is situated in Wem, which also has a train station and a number of shops.
