The soil is mainly derived from Forfar series and is capable of growing excellent yields of the full range of arable and vegetable crops.

The present arable farming system is based on a rotation including: Spring barley, winter wheat, seed potatoes and spring protein peas. The pasture is used for grazing cattle.

The land at Finavon is located in Angus, an area renowned for its prime arable land and scenic landscapes. It is located 6 miles to the north east of the town of Forfar and 7.5 miles south west of the Cathedral City of Brechin.
